What is an adjective:

Fortunately adjectives and adverbs in Russian are a bit simpler than in English
and so long as you can remember one form then you can usually work out the
other forms which saves having to remember so much.

For those who are a little unsure I will explain what is an adjective/adverb:

An adjective is a word which describes a noun (an object), for example "white" 
and "quick" are adjectives in the sentence: "I saw a quick, white rabbit".
Although in the sentence: "The white rabbit ran quickly", the word "white is 
still an adjective but the word "quickly" is an adverb because it describes how
an action was carried out.

Making an adverb:

All of the words in the table above are adjectives, however it is easy to 
convert them to an adverb as you simply replace the "ee" (ый) at the end with 
"о" (short "a") so the word for quick would be:

Quick (adjective)	: "bistree" : (быстрый)
Quick (adverb)		: "bistra"  : (быстро)

Comparitive adjectives:

As you can see in the table there are three forms for adjectives:

Normal:		Eg - Quick
More:		Eg - Quicker
The most:	Eg - The quickest

Working out the middle version from the normal adjective involves a little
guesswork as there are two possible variants (so you have a 50% chance of 
getting the right one):

Sometimes you add "eeya" (ее) to the end. And sometimes you remove the last 
half of the word and add "sheh" (ше) to the end. For example:

Strong: 	"Seelnee" : (сильный)
Stronger:	"seelneeya" : (сильнее)
Strong (adverb): "seelna" : (сильно)

Thick:		"tolstee" : (толстый)
Thicker: 	"tolsheh" : (тольше)
Thick (adverb):	"tolsta" : (толсто)


Superlative adjectives:

To convert the adjective to a superlative word ("the most") then you can
usually simply put the word "samee" (самый) before the adjective, eg:

Strong:		"seelnee" : (сильный)
The strongest:	"samee seelnee" : (самый сильный)


Adjective genders:

Unfortunately there is one more complication to adjectives and adverbs in
Russian and that is the fact that, like other European languages, all the 
words in each sentence must follow the same gender as the subject of the
sentence and every noun in Russian is either male, female or neuter (or
plural). 

For example if the subject of the sentence is a "hat" then all of 
the words in the sentence need to have "ya" appended because a hat is a 
female object!!

Eg: The cat slept on the strange hat..

"кошка спала на страная шапко".
"koshka spala na straneeya shapka".

So if the noun which the adjective describes is female or neuter then the
adjective must have "ya" (я) appended. Thus the adjective "strong"
would change from "seelnee" to "seelneeya" for sentences where the subject/
noun is female.

Adjective plurals:

Just in case you thought that was the end of it finally.. there's more. Now
we must quickly discuss an exception to the above rule. If the noun of the
sentence is plural (many of it) then it doesn't matter whether that noun
is male or female because you must instead tag an "eeye" (ие) to the end
of the adjective. Eg:

"I have many red cars"
"у меня много красние машинов"
"oo menya mnoga krasneeye masheenoff"


"Bloody hell", I hear you cry, "I have to remember 4 russian variants for
every single english adjective. You said russian adjectives are simpler".
